Maureen Datta, widely recognized as the "mother of food hubs," established the first food hub in Hawaiʻi. Founded by Tane Datta in 1979, Adaptations is a certified organic farm located in South Kona. It specializes in cultivating tree crops, diversified vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers. In 1993, Tane and Maureen launched Adaptations Food Hub, which has since become a leading local food distributor across the state. With an average of 425 unique local food products sourced seasonally from 180 small and medium-sized farms on Hawai'i Island, as well as several producers on Maui, the food hub supplies wholesale to other food hubs, food service providers, and retail accounts statewide.
In addition to its wholesale operations, Adaptations also offers an online Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This program directly distributes fresh produce and value-added products to 500 households each week through 25 pickup locations on Hawaiʻi Island. With a mission to engage in ecologically sound community and land development based on organic farming, alternative energy, and complementary medicine, Adaptations embodies a holistic approach to sustainable agriculture and community well-being.
